Exploring the Barriers of Science Education Courses of Bachelor of Education Program at Bangladesh Open University

Abstract

Quality study materials are the key for Open and Distance Learning (ODL) educational
activities that would help learners to achieve their learning outcomes. The present study is
intended to identify limitations as well as innovative and good practices in particular areas
such as study materials, curriculum, etc. of ODL module for the B.Ed. Program under
BOU. The study was conducted through a survey among the tutors and students of science
courses to collect data from primary source. Study result shows that there has been a gap
between learners’ learning outcome and study materials provided, the later appeared as ‘not
enough’. However, majority of the tutors and students think that there is enough scope for
improvement of learning materials both in terms of quality and quantity. Enhanced use of
digital contents as study materials can improve the quality of the module, and may
contribute in using the acquired knowledge in practical and professional life. Findings of
the study would surely enrich the quality of the program that ultimately helpful to attain
Quality Education in Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).
